A Visit To Intramuros

Last Sunday, two of my colleagues took me on a sightseeing trip to Intramuros (also known as the the walled city), in Manila. Here are some photos from my visit.

Based on what I heard from my colleagues, Intramuros used to have several old buildings, churches, cobble-stoned streets, etc. Most of it is now modernised, except Fort Santiago.

Built in 1571, Fort Santiago has been the headquarters of the British Occupation Army (1762-1764), the Philippines Division of the U.S. Army; as well as the invading Japanese military (1942). Since its handover to the Philippines government (1946), it has been declared as a Shrine of Freedom (1950). It houses the shrine of Jose Rizal, a National Hero in the Philippines.
